Individualizing Instruction in a Web-Based Hypermedia Learning Environment: Nonlinearity, Advance Organizers, and Self-Regulated Learners
نویسنده
چکیده
This study attempted to determine what combination of nonlinearity and advance organizers worked best for learners with given levels of self-regulation. While the results of the study showed no significant main effects or interactions, there were two near significant interactions: between nonlinearity and selfregulated learning (p = 0.054), and between nonlinearity and advance organizers (p = 0.052). These results strongly suggest that highly self-regulating learners learn poorly in mostly linear webbased hypermedia learning environments, where they have very few choices, while medium self-regulating learners learn poorly in highly nonlinear environments where they are given too many choices. The results also strongly suggest that advance organizers are more effective in highly nonlinear web-based hypermedia learning environments than in mostly linear environments. While not conclusive, the results of this study support further research.

The Effect of Web-Integrated Instruction and Feedback on Self-Regulated Learning Ability of Iranian EFL Learners
Abstract The present study intended, firstly, to investigate the effect of web-integrated instruction on self-regulated learning ability in EFL writing, and secondly, to compare and contrast the effects of paper-based feedback and web-assisted feedback on the self-regulated learning ability. To this end, a quasi-experimental design was applied for both cases. In line with the first objective, ...

This study explored learners’ utilization of multiple representations of information within a hypermedia learning environment during self-regulated and externally-regulated learning episodes. 135 middle school and high school participants were randomly assigned to either a self-regulated learning (SRL) condition, in which the learners attempted to use a hypermedia environment to learn about the...
متن کاملThe Impact of Training EFL Learners in Self-Regulation of Reading on their EFL Literal and Critical Reading Comprehension: Implementing a Model
Self-regulation is the ability to regulate one’s thoughts and actions to attain goals. Accordingly, self-regulated learning (SRL) involves plans and behaviors to achieve learning goals. With this in mind, in this study we investigated whether training English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners on the basis of a Self-regulated Learning (SRL) model improved their literal and critical reading co...
